My Mom likes it :)
The Sexy Stuff: This is just plain fun! Color is pale straw with an edge of green; clarity is remarkably bright for an unfiltered wine. Nose leads off with a beguiling mix of citrus leaf, mint, and green almond. Palate weight is medium, possessing a touch of salinity that pops the bright acidity with a nice mouthwatering zip. Flavor profile is balancing right on the intersection of citrus and stone fruit (my happy place). The finish rolls out with silky viscosity, a rumor of pineapple, and memory of daffodil. With this in my glass, bring me oysters plucked from the cold briny sea, and I will be a happy man.
The Geeky Stuff: All stainless-steel barrel ferment and elevage | pH 3.30 | TA .62 | Harvested September 21st at 22.5 brix.
Our first non-Rhone white varietal in a decade! Over the years, I’ve loved working with Viognier, Roussanne and especially Grenache Blanc. I’ve always seen a common thread between Grenache Blanc and Vermentino both in how they grow, cluster size, and to a degree their flavor profile. As a consulting winemaker I’ve had the pleasure of working with fruit from this site for a few years, but this is our first vintage produced under our own label and with our stylistic leanings. We hand harvested on the 21st of September, with a fairly wide range of brix between the sun side and shade side of the rows. Those familiar with our white wine approach may recall I have a love for getting multiple levels of ripeness and flavor development within single varietals. This Vermentino was crushed on whole cluster, covered with a cold CO2 blanket (dry ice) for a few hours of skin contact. Pressed to settling tank over night, then racked down to stainless barrels and sent to the cold room. After a month of cool stainless steel fermentation and twice weekly lees stirring we left it to rest for the winter.

Made in tiny amounts, this vineyard-designate is stainless-steel fermented and aged and shows a spritzy, nervy personality of freshness and focus. Floral gardenia and jasmine give way to bright, developed flavors of Meyer lemon and blood orange.
