Let me shock you with black pepper and spice; let me refresh you with rhubarb and raspberry; let me revive you with Oolong tea. I am the Red Hat, wear me and step outside of yourself, sip me and be transported to the stage where life is a parody and laughter rules.
This small vineyard is surrounded by old Walnut trees and inter-planted with Lavender and Olives. These low yielding head pruned vines have been under our care since 2007. We average a mere 1/2 to 3/4 tons off this acre each year. This wine is a pure expression of it's surroundings, possessing a 'sense of place' that is undeniable. The 2013 vintage was harvested by our small winery crew on the morning of September 17th as rainclouds loomed in the distance. Luckily the weather held out and by late afternoon we were loaded up and heading back to Santa Rosa under sunny skies with smiles all around.
The Petite Sirah made up about 90% of the blend with Cabernet rounding out the remainder. We crushed them together and fermented with 100% whole clusters in 1/2 open top macro bins. After 11 days we basket pressed into two neutral French Oak barrels where the wine would rest for the next 11 months before bottling sans filtration.
